Las Vegas, NV — May 10, 2022: The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (“CLOC”) officially opened its CLOC Global Institute today in Las Vegas as over 2,500 participants gathered to share ideas and best practices focused on transforming the business and practice of law.

The president of CLOC’s Board of Directors, Mike Haven, Head of Legal Operations and Associate General Counsel at Intel, launched the conference’s opening session with remarks focused on the extraordinary recent growth of legal operations as “an industry within an industry” as corporate legal departments look to technology and innovation to help organizations meet their goals.

“The members of the CLOC community rose to the challenge of the pandemic,” Haven told the attendees. “You met upheaval and pressure with poise and innovation. You found new ways to accomplish things for your teams, your companies…and for each other.”

With a focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness sharpened by the pandemic, the field of legal operations has become an essential discipline within the larger legal industry. As the largest global community of legal operations professionals, CLOC has helped set industry standards and practices for the profession, and has seen its membership grow dramatically since the pandemic, reaching new highs.

Membership was up 35% in 2021. And, in the first quarter of 2022, membership grew 11% over the last quarter of 2021.

Participation at the annual CLOC Global Institute (“CGI”) hit a record number as well, exceeding 2019 levels.

“If you look at what has allowed us to not just survive, but actually thrive, during the pandemic, it’s been the insight, strength and capability in this community,” said CLOC Executive Director Betsi Roach. “As an organization, our role is to harness all that talent and innovation, and find ways to share it broadly with the community.”

CGI runs through May 12 with continuing education content, product demonstrations, networking opportunities and a planned closing session focused on the future of legal operations.
