Coke, Pepsi, P&G Among Companies Sued For Making Oceans A Plastics Dump

At the current rate of pollution, plastic in the ocean will outweigh fish by 2050, according to a lawsuit filed by a California-based environmental group. The Earth Island Institute maintains that a significant share of the millions of tons of plastic that ends up in the ocean every year can be traced back to 10 defendant companies and their “single-use plastic packaging.” It wants the companies to pay for remediation and to stop advertising that their products are recyclable, a claim it contends is bogus as most of it is in fact not recycled. The defendant companies are Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestlé, Clorox, Crystal Geyser, Mars, Danone, Mondelēz International, Colgate-Palmolive, and Procter & Gamble.
