The World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva is meeting on Tuesday to discuss a proposal by South Africa to waive patents and intellectual property (IP) so that access to vaccines and treatment for Covid-19 is fair.
South Africa is convinced that it is facing growing support in its "David vs Goliath" fight at the WTO to have intellectual rights related to Covid-19 suspended to ensure that not only the wealthiest countries will be able to access and afford vaccines, medicines and other diagnostics needed in the fight against the virus.
