“Danni Lowinski” could be headed to U.S. network TV after 20th Century Fox Television and Intrigue Entertainment scooped the U.S. remake rights to the German comedy drama about a hairdresser-turned-lawyer. NBC is funding script development for a U.S. version.
“Glee” co-creator Ian Brennan will write and executive produce the new U.S. version as well as executive produce. Tariq Jalil, Lucas Carter, Jan David Frouman, Michael Schmidt and Shirley Bowers are also executive producers on the show.
The scripted series is on German station Sat.1, part of the ProSiebenSat.1 group. Its content arm, Red Arrow, handles distribution of the series and struck the U.S. format deal. The deal with Intrigue Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television was concluded by Red Arrow’s Shirley Bowers.
UFA Fiction makes the long-running German series. The show follows Lowinski, a law school graduate, as she sets up a mall kiosk law practice after being rejected by mainstream law firms.
An earlier attempt to get a U.S. version on The CW, with CBS Studios producing, did not come off. Fox and Intrigue are hoping for better luck at NBC. Local versions have previously been set up in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Russia, and Ukraine.
