US Labor Department announces supplemental funding to continue reemployment services for dislocated workers in Massachusetts

Use of Funds: On June 24, 2014, the U.S. Department of Labor approved a National Dislocated Worker Grant award for $4,334,766 to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development to provide for reemployment services to 288 targeted dislocated workers across the state, as well as for the implementation of technological advancements to systems that match jobseekers with available employment opportunities.

This supplemental award will provide services to initial participants still enrolled, as well as to an additional 21 individuals recently added to the grant, and brings the total funds awarded to date for this project to $4,901,096.

Background: Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, NDWGs temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker training and employment programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events which cause significant job losses. NDWGs generally provide resources to states and local workforce investment boards to reemploy laid-off workers quickly by offering training to increase occupational skills.
