The Cure for Law Firm Layoffs?

The so-called ‘overcapacity’ problem at law firms has persisted in the eight years since the financial crisis without any solution other than, well, laying people off.

But could a totally new law firm business model be the key to sound financial hygiene?

Melissa Heelan for Bloomberg BNA spoke with Pat Gillette , an observer of legal business.

Gillette proposed doing away with the law firm pyramid structure, under which attorneys churn out billable hours with armies of associates per a small number of partners, and turnover in the junior ranks is high.
