Judge Scheindlin Joins JAMS to Focus on Cases of Public Interest

Departing New York federal judge Shira A. Scheindlin is joining JAMS, a large private provider of mediation and arbitration services.

Scheindlin, who spent more than 21 years as a judge in the Southern District of New York, starts work on Monday, offering her services as a mediator, arbitrator and special master, in the JAMS New York Resolution Center.

In an interview at her chambers last week, Scheindlin explained that she expects to have more control over her caseload than she did on the federal bench. With JAMS, she plans to market her expertise in matters of public interest, focusing on reforms to prisons and police departments, ...
