WASHINGTON, DC -- (July 7, 2021) -- Seyfarth announced today the arrival of Stephanie Magnell as counsel in the firm’s Litigation department and Government Contracts practice group in Washington, DC. Magnell joins Seyfarth from the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), where she served as Deputy Assistant General Counsel for Procurement Law and Bid Protest Hearing Officer since 2014. She was also appointed to GAO’s Contract Appeals Board, where she resolved claims under government contracts.

At GAO, Magnell presided over more than 500 bid protests, including challenges to solicitation terms, proposal evaluation, organizational conflicts of interest, responsibility and competitive range determinations, and the conduct of discussions. Magnell also heard classified protests and is experienced in resolving contracting disputes with defense and national security agencies.

“Stephanie is an extremely talented lawyer who brings a unique understanding of the intricacies involved with government contracts from her successful time at the GAO,” said James McGrath, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation department. “We’re thrilled to call her a new team member as we strategically grow our department and government contracts practice.”

Prior to her work at the GAO, Magnell was a trial attorney for the US Army, where she litigated complex government contracts claims and protests. She also worked for several years in private practice and has extensive experience serving non-U.S. clients.

“We’re excited to welcome another veteran of public service to our office. Stephanie joins a government contracts team that provides high-demand service offerings for companies here in the Beltway and across the country,” said Leon Rodriguez, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Washington, DC office.

“Stephanie has built a remarkable career and her impressive government experience will be a great asset to our clients and colleagues,” said Christa Dommers, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Washington, DC office.

Magnell is another important addition to Seyfarth’s growing Government Contracts practice. Last August, the firm announced the arrival of Government Contracts partner Adam Lasky in Seattle.

Seyfarth’s Government Contracts practice group was launched more than 30 years ago and remains a market leader, consistently ranked amongst the leading government contracts practice groups in the nation. Each year, government contractors trust Seyfarth’s team with protests, claims, transactions, and compliance matters involving billions of dollars and bet-the-company issues. Seyfarth’s team works with government contracts across a wide spectrum of industries to minimize risks and maximize strategic objectives. The national team represents some of the largest and biggest names in government contracting, as well as small and emerging government contractors.

Magnell earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and received an A.B., cum laude, in Economics from Harvard University.
