Dechert is moving into new offices of 8,600 square feet in a landmark Grade A office development overlooking the iconic National Concert Hall in the centre of Dublin’s business and cultural district. Eversheds Sutherland and Arthur Cox among their neighbours.

Increased demand

Dechert was the first major US firm to open an office in Dublin, and the firm has been steadily growing its capability in Dublin since opening the office in 2010, with new senior hires in 2019 including financial services partner Carol Widger who joined in January 2019 as Dublin managing partner, and financial services partner Ciara O’Leary who joined the practice in September 2019, adding to the firm’s 200 lawyer-strong global financial services and investment management practice. Ms Widger, says, “Dechert is committed to the Dublin market and our investment in new office space reflects the significant increase in client demand we’ve experienced over the last few years and is also a clear indication of our planned future growth to continue to meet the needs of our clients who value the global footprint of an international service offering.”

Important market

Dechert boast is that it remains the only major global law firm with a funds practice that spans the key European funds domiciles as well as the US, Middle East and Asia. In Dublin, Dechert’s practice focuses on providing asset managers with full scope support in the operation of their investment products and investment management activities, rather than focusing purely on Irish-only advice. Ms Widger added, “We intend to continue developing our expertise and capability in this important market, enhancing our local Irish expertise and our deep industry knowledge on a global scale.”
