Exclusive: Rocket Lawyer eyes UK insurer tie-ups

Moore: Legal made simple

Online legal documents giant Rocket Lawyer is in talks with UK insurance companies to integrate its digital services into their platforms, Legal Futures can reveal.

It follows the launch last week of the company’s “unique” partnership with a major European brand.

In what it claimed to be among the first such deals of its kind in Europe, the San Francisco-based company announced a partnership with French insurance company Covéa – which has 11.5m customers in France.

Rocket Lawyer said it involved a level of technology integration that went far beyond the usual marketing-based tie-ups and gave clients access to its full range of services directly from their devices.

The venture is ‘co-branded’ under Rocket Lawyer’s own name rather than white-labelled invisibly under the insurance company’s.

Speaking to Legal Futures, Rocket Lawyer’s chief executive, Charley Moore, said the approach was “unique”, adding: “In the past, some insurance companies have provided their clients with generic templates for legal documents with little automation, guidance and customisation.

“However, we’ve found most people struggle to use simple templates that don’t address their specific situation…

“Covéa now provides a personalised legal service by integrating with Rocket Lawyer. This partnership covers a wide range of legal topics, enabling customers to get help with their home and auto legal needs, but also business or employment issues – wherever their need for legal services arises.

“Covéa’s customers in France can now access documents as well as on-demand legal advice from an attorney for step-by-step assistance as they resolve legal issues – it’s legal made simple.”

He said he was currently “actively engaging” with UK companies to replicate the venture here, adding: “Enabling people to access affordable legal solutions from brands they know and trust is a key part of our mission and why we’ve invested so much in our technology partner platform.”
