Shook Strengthens Global Arbitration Services to Meet Client Needs

Following the recent addition of two global arbitration attorneys, Shook welcomes Giovanni Angles to the firm as part of its commitment to enhance international arbitration services for clients. Angles represents individuals, corporations and sovereign governments in international commercial and investment-treaty arbitrations, when foreign investors sue sovereign governments pursuant to public international law.

“When I met Gio, it was clear that his experience in international litigation and arbitration would be a good match for our growing team and our clients.” stated Shook’s Global Arbitration Practice Chair Carlos F. Concepción, who also leads the Miami International Arbitration Society.

Shook is known globally for its strength in commercial litigation, and mediation and arbitration for health, science and technology companies. Shook’s international hearings and trial teams are equally at home in international tribunals, state or federal court, before mediators and arbitrators and on appeal.

Angles is a member of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) and will help Shook expand litigation capabilities globally, particularly in Latin America and Europe.

“In the realm of investment-treaty arbitration, the promotion of foreign direct investment is typically a win-win for investors pursuing new revenue streams and sovereign governments desiring sustained economic growth. Yet, challenges occur when investors’ treaty rights clash with a state’s inherent authority to enact regulatory changes,” stated Angles. “That’s where we come in to try and work out solutions and protect our clients’ interests. It’s exciting work and I look forward to collaborating with Carlos and this team of experienced arbitration attorneys.”

Angles earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School, cum laude, and his bachelor’s degree in Political Science, with a Certificate in Asian Studies, from Florida International University.
