Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Stephen Vaughan spoke on “When Title VII Meets Title IX: Addressing Sexual Harassment Claims Involving University Employees” at the recent CUPA-HR Annual Conference and Expo.

The Oct. 4 session, presented in cooperation with the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), addressed the interplay between Title VII and Title IX, two federal laws prohibiting sex discrimination (including sexual harassment) in the workplace, albeit under different sets of rules. The panelists discussed institutions' legal obligations under both, as well as practical tips for how HR professionals can navigate thorny issues that may arise during the application of these laws to situations involving university employees, including student employees, faculty members and union employees. The speakers also gave an update on the status of the August 2020 regulations under the Biden administration.

Vaughan was joined in the presentation by NACUA Assistant Director of Legal Resources Janell Johnson and Johns Hopkins University Associate General Counsel Hope Murphy Tyehimba.
