LaToya Burrell Receives Nancy A. Sullivan Community Leadership Award From Barnes & Thornburg Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – As part of Barnes & Thornburg’s 10th annual Women in Leadership: Exploring Pathways event, held on Sept. 29 in Minneapolis, the firm presented the Nancy A. Sullivan Community Leadership Award to LaToya Burrell.

Burrell is executive director of Anderson Foundation/DEI Champion at Zinpro Corporation, as well as the author of the book, “Be Bold: How to Prepare Your Heart and Mind for Racial Reconciliation.” Written in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, the book explores how to work toward racial reconciliation by encouraging difficult, courageous, and bold conversations surrounding race, racism, racial injustice, and systemic racism. The book builds on LaToya’s work as a DEI champion, community advocate, attorney, and mentor for students at North Central University, where she was an associate professor and dean of Graduate Education and Accreditation.

The Nancy A. Sullivan Community Leadership Award – named in memory of beloved Barnes & Thornburg partner Nancy Sullivan after her sudden passing in 2013 – was created to recognize women in the Minneapolis community who have achieved the highest level of professional excellence; exemplify a commitment to their community; are dedicated to helping others, especially women, in realizing their leadership potential; and exhibit the qualities of partnership, integrity, and perseverance.

The Women in Leadership: Exploring Pathways event was held at the Nicollet Island Pavilion and keynote speaker Brenda Jacobsen of Mindful Communications led the group through a discussion on tangible ways to bring mindfulness into their lives following a challenging year of isolation and remote work.

With more than 700 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from offices in Atlanta, Boston, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, New York, Ohio, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, Texas and Washington, D.C.
