Cleary German Offices Participate in New Gender Equality Initiative

September 15, 2020

Cleary Gottlieb’s Cologne and Frankfurt offices are participating in the DIS-ERA Pledge Gender Champion Initiative, a new gender equality pilot project in Germany.

The DIS-ERA Pledge Gender Champion Initiative was created by the German Arbitration Institute (DIS) and the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge (ERA Pledge) in October 2019. The initiative aims to promote greater gender equality in international arbitration and specifically with respect to arbitrator appointments.

Law firms and organizations that join the initiative appoint “Gender Champions,” who collect data, report, and monitor the appointments of female and male arbitrators nominated by their firms. Gender Champions will also attend quarterly meetings during which DIS will share its own statistical data and where the Gender Champions will discuss recent developments and their own observations. Cleary is currently represented by associate Zachary O’Dell and stagiaire Till Hackstein.
