Clifford Chance advises GIGA Storage on the acquisition by InfraVia of a majority shareholding in GIGA Storage

Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised GIGA Storage, a leading player in Battery Energy Storage System ("BESS") development, construction, and operations in the Netherlands and Belgium, on the acquisition by InfraVia Capital Partners ("InfraVia"), a leading European infrastructure investor, of a majority shareholding in GIGA Storage.

GIGA Storage is an early mover in the BESS sector in these two countries focused on innovation and sustainability, and is one of the few independent storage platforms that integrates the full value chain – from development and construction of BESS, to market operation of owned battery capacity as a balancing party to the network operators. GIGA Storage manages operational assets in the Netherlands and has developed a near term pipeline of 2GW across Benelux.

The transaction marks a key milestone for the company and will accelerate GIGA Storage's development and operation of large-scale BESS sites that will underpin the energy transition initially in both countries. Read more about the intended transaction here.

Partner Hein Tonnaer says: "We are proud to have advised GIGA Storage and founders on this important energy transition transaction. Our Energy & Infrastructure group combines multiple disciplines, including market leading Energy M&A knowledge, which all nicely came together in this deal. We look forward to working on the upcoming innovative battery energy storage systems projects and financings together with the company and the new shareholder base."

The Clifford Chance core team was led by Han Teerink and Tim Heerschop (Corporate M&A), Liesbeth Buiter and Hein Tonnaer (Energy & Infrastructure) and further consisted of Lotte de Bruin, Sabine van den Heuvel, Bart van Hattum, Gülsah Vural, Mies Rijperman and Bruno Weisser Lopez. The wider cross-border team comprised Arezo Zarbaf, Carlijn Tenge, Andrea Karkotis, Kris Soomers, Niels Kuil (Energy & Infrastructure), Bart Stuyfzand (Global Financial Markets), Stern Flik (Tax), Andrei Mikes, Tamlin Higgins, Laura Bredschneijder (Tech//Digital), Wijnanda Rutten (Pensions), Charlotte Horsten (Notary), Iga Mamczarz and Sanne Blankestijn (Employment) in Amsterdam and Ruben Vermang, Joachim Nys, Pieter de Bock and Philippe Baert (Energy & Infrastructure) in Brussels.
