Artificial intelligence, or AI, is one of the fastest-growing yet most widely misunderstood areas of legal practice.
Womble Bond Dickinson Chief Knowledge Officer Bill Koch recently spoke to the Canadian Bar Association’s National Magazine on the practical applications of AI in large law firms. He said these firms are successfully employing AI to collect and curate large amounts of data. This, in turn, can provide attorneys and their clients with better information with which to make informed decisions.
“Firms... want to be more data-driven, make more decisions around data,” Koch said.
He added that AI is just another tool that, when in the hands of skilled users, can be used to obtain better results for firm clients. But AI does not mean that robots or automated systems will replace human attorneys.
Koch also recently contributed to a new ABA Business Law Section book titled, “The Law of Artificial Intelligence and Smart Machines”.
