This week, Ropes & Gray attorneys advised on a deal for a portfolio company of private equity firm TPG, authored articles and spoke about trends affecting health care, life sciences and litigation, and hosted a major international conference on intellectual property. The firm also announced a successful charitable donation campaign that, in conjunction with the firm’s pro bono efforts, supports childhood cancer research. Here’s a summary of the week’s highlights:

  • TPG Capital portfolio company WellSky Corporation agreed to acquire ClearCare, a software-as-a-service provider used by home care companies. Ropes & Gray represented WellSky in the acquisition.
  • Developments in intellectual property law are presenting challenges and opportunities for U.S. companies operating in a rapidly evolving global regulatory landscape. To help companies understand the state of international intellectual property law and develop strategies for navigating it, Ropes & Gray, along with Boston College Law School and the Boston Patent Law Association, hosted the Second Annual International IP Summit.
  • Various legal developments and regulatory trends concerning enforcement and disclosure are affecting the mutual fund and investment management industries. Ropes & Gray addresses these issues in a new investment management update
  • A Second Circuit ruling that permits discovery of documents located outside the United States is likely to cause a flurry of international discovery. Gregg Weiner, co-chair of Ropes & Gray’s litigation practice, along with litigation associate Andrew Todres, co-authored a Law360 article that examines the Second Circuit opinion, the potential for contrary rulings and the implications of the ruling.
  • Life sciences regulatory & compliance partner Katherine Wang presented to the European Union Chamber of Commerce pharmaceutical working group on highlights of China’s new drug administration law and examined the law’s impact on companies’ access to the Chinese market.
  • Ropes & Gray donated more than £50,500 to childhood cancer research charity Children with Cancer UK in memory of Kaiya Patel, daughter of London antitrust partner Ruchit Patel. Kaiya passed away in January 2019 at age six after a battle with cancer. The firm pledged to donate £80 for every lawyer who met a 20-hour pro bono goal by June 30, 2019, and more than 600 lawyers achieved the target.
