RICHMOND – Reed Smith today announced Dennis H. Treacy, a member of its Virginia Government Relations Team, has been elected to membership in the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL), one of only 25 Fellows named this year.

“We congratulate Dennis for earning this prestigious and well-deserved recognition,” said Edward A. Mullen, Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Richmond office. “It is a testament to his distinguished career and solid record of service and accomplishments in environmental law and policy in Virginia and nationwide.”

Treacy has had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors. He served as the Director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and as assistant attorney general in the natural resources section of the Virginia Attorney General’s office. At Smithfield Foods, he served as President of the Smithfield Foundation, where he is currently on the board, and as Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer for the company. In these roles, he directed many areas, including government affairs, corporate communications, environmental programs, sustainability initiatives, charitable giving and the legal department.

In addition to the Smithfield Foundation Board, Treacy serves or has served on dozens of state and national boards and commissions. He is a past board chair of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and chairs VIRGINIAforever, a unique environmental organization with members from businesses and natural resource and environmental groups. He also is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission.
