Arnold & Porter Among Founding Members of Groundbreaking Pro Bono Sustainability Initiative

September 18, 2018

Arnold & Porter is one of eight founding firms of "Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy," a groundbreaking initiative that promises $15 million worth of pro bono legal services to causes advancing sustainability. Arnold & Porter and six other founding firms have pledged to contribute $2 million worth of pro bono work by 2020.

The initiative will connect participating law firms with entrepreneurs and community-based nonprofits that work in conservation and sustainability issues, including energy, transportation, and land use.

"At Arnold & Porter, our longstanding commitment to public service and pro bono work is key to who we are, including in the areas of sustainability and conservation," said Brian Israel, chair of the firm's Environmental practice group. "We are especially proud of our pro bono representation of the National Parks Conservation Association, an organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing America's National Parks for present and future generations. We are honored to serve as a founding member of Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy, an innovative and collaborative approach to supporting sustainability initiatives."

Stanford Law School and Stanford's Precourt Institute for Energy will facilitate the initiative, which was announced at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, California on September 14, 2018. They will also track the initiative's impact.
