Dentons expands in Chile

The world’s largest law firm picks up a 33-lawyer firm

Dentons expands in Chile

Dentons has absorbed a leading law firm to expand in Chile.

The firm has integrated Larrain Rencoret Urzua, a 33-lawyer firm with a full range of practice areas known for its work in projects and infrastructure, banking and finance, M&A, mining and natural resources, and energy and projects.

"This combination in Chile with a strong firm like LRU will help us continue to attract even more top talent and top law firms in Latin America and the Caribbean," said Jorge Alers, CEO of Dentons Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The move comes after Dentons combined with two firms earlier this year in the Eastern Caribbean and the Cayman Islands. Last year, the firm launched a strategic alliance with Brazil’s Vella Pugliese Buosi Guidoni and combined with Peru’s Gallo Barrios Pickmann. The firm earlier launched Dentons Muñoz in Central America, Dentons López Velarde in Mexico and Dentons Cardenas & Cardenas in Colombia.

“These moves are part of Dentons' long-term strategy to build our presence in Latin America and the Caribbean,” the firm said.

"We are growing faster in Latin America and the Caribbean—and with truly high-quality firms—than anyone has ever done before," said Elliott Portnoy, global CEO of Dentons.

Dentons said that Chile has the fifth-largest economy by GDP in Latin America and the Caribbean. The firm now has locations in five of the top six economies of the region.
