As TikTok continues refine its live options, YouTube is also gives his live-stream tools more focus, with two new additions to maximize the engagement and awareness of live broadcasts within the app.

First, YouTube is expanding its Premiere trailer option to upcoming live ones, which will allow creators to add a short preview track to the streaming event page.

As explained by YouTube Conor Kavanagh:

“Last year we introduced fans that allow creators to add a 15-second to 3-minute clip to the upcoming or scheduled page of a premiere. Now we’re delighted to announce that trailers are now available for emerging and scheduled live streams. “

The option offers another way to attract potential viewers to your broadcasts, with a quick display of what they will get from your stream.

To set up a live trailer, you must first upload the preview clip as a regular YouTube video. You can then select the track as your trailer in your live event.

Live creators can add trailers via YouTube Live Control Room, with the option available to all channels with at least 1,000 subscribers and no alerts.

In addition, YouTube is also expanding access to its Live Chat Polls option, which provides another way to maximize engagement within live streams.

As you can see here, streamers can set up a live poll from the chat window, where they can choose up to four options to choose from. Live polls were previously available for game creators, but now all streamers can add the option – even if Polls is only enabled via the computer version of the app.

It is also noteworthy that Live Polls do not appears in live chat repeats (more info here).

Live streaming apparently had its moment a few years ago when the advent of Meerkat and Periscope opened up the world to a whole new range of creators who wanted to share their unique perspectives. But then it died down, because the overall quality of streams diluted the value of the option. But now, with both Youtube and TikTok Exploring live-stream trading, which could provide more revenue opportunities, has a revival and if TikTok tries to continue it, YouTube will undoubtedly follow suit, thus limiting any migration of creative talent.

That’s why it wants to add these new live options – and you can expect to see even more on this front, as both platforms are racing to offer the best commercial streaming tools to win the best stars.
