While an increasingly global business marketplace could be making it harder for companies to adequately keep track of trademarks, copyrights and other forms of intellectual property, they might not be in any immediate rush to spend on IP monitoring software just yet. For starters, many companies still rely on a global network of outside counsel to help track jurisdictional changes in IP laws, a functionality that still eludes most of the monitoring tech on the market.  

Still, that’s not to say there isn’t a place for technology. “A lot of people are still using the legacy [IP monitoring] systems that they had,” said Nehal Madhani, CEO of the IP docketing provider Alt Legal.
