PinHawk LLC, the company that publishes an assortment of free and paid electronic newsletters for the legal and professional services markets, has been acquired by Law Business Media, publisher of Corporate Counsel Business Journal, In-House Ops and In-House Legal Tech.

PinHawk’s daily topical newsletters aggregate stories from thousands of sources, with highlights and commentary added by editors who are well-known in their areas of focus.

Among PinHawk’s titles are Law Technology Daily Digest, edited by Jeffrey Brandt, chief information officer, Jackson Kelly PLLC; Legal Administrator Daily, edited by Bill Lipner, legal industry consultant; and Librarian News Digest, co-edited by Constance Ard, senior research services manager at Hogan Lovells, and John DiGilio, firmwide director of library services at Sidley Austin LLP.

Others include Law Firm Marketing Brief, edited by Joe Lamport, marketing consultant and director of business development at PinHawk; and Leading Law Departments, edited by Rees Morrison, senior manager at EY.

PinHawk also creates private-label, branded newsletters for law firms, professional services organizations and other organizations.

New York-based PinHawk was launched in 2005 by Joe Bookman, who previously co-founded and built two successful technology companies, including CompInfo, whose software, LawPack, was widely adopted by law firms and corporate law departments. CompInfo is now part of OpenText.

Bookman will remain with Law Business Media as a consultant. PinHawk’s editors and staff will also remain with the company.

Law Business Media

Law Business Media, based in Connecticut, was founded in 2014 by the wife-and-husband team of Kristin Calve, its CEO, and Joe Calve, after they acquired the publication formerly known as Metropolitan Corporate Counsel, which they rebranded as Corporate Counsel Business Journal, and of which Kristin is publisher and editor.

Both formerly worked at legal publisher ALM, Kristin as a publisher and analyst, and Joe as a vice president, publisher and editor. Joe is chief marketing and business development officer at McGuireWoods LLP.

(In my years employed at ALM, I worked closely with both Calves.)

“We are delighted to welcome PinHawk to the Law Business Media family,” Kristin Calve said in a statement announcing the acquisition. “We have known and admired PinHawk founder Joe Bookman for many years. He is a genuine legal technology and publishing visionary.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of the Law Business Media universe,” Bookman said. “Our combined editorial and technical resources will enable us to deliver even more high-quality content to our audience.”

Other PinHawk newsletter titles include: Law Firm News & Press Releases, Corporate Legal News, Economic Research and News, Hedge Fund News, NYC Real Estate News, Securities News, and Bankruptcy News.

Other PinHawk editors who now join Law Business Media are: Sue Silverman, editor of Law Firm News; Yiorgos Athanassatos, editor of Hedge Fund News; and Fran Susino, editor of Economics Research and News.

In addition, Mike Wisz, PinHawk’s lead software developer, will continue to enhance and support the PinHawk technology platform.
