After OpenAI launched GPT-4o on Monday, lots of new capabilities were announced by Google yesterday at I/O 2024. Here’s a summary of the new capabilities!

As reported by The Verge, it was AI all day at Google’s developer keynote. The company showed off new AI-powered chatbot tools, new search capabilities, and a bunch of machine intelligence upgrades for Android.

So, what did Google announce? Here is a summary of the new capabilities announced by Google at I/O 2024:

Google Search Enhancements

• Contextual Awareness: Delivers more relevant and organized search results.
• AI Overviews: Provides summaries from multiple sources at the top of search results.
• Multi-Step Reasoning: Helps find layered information on topics, like planning a trip with detailed itineraries and recommendations.
• Enhanced Google Lens: Provides detailed answers and instructions by identifying objects through the camera.

Gemini Nano

• Multimodality: Converts any input (text, photos, audio, videos) into any output.
• Enhanced Developer Access: Offers more computing power than other LLMs.

Gemini 1.5 Pro

• Global Availability: A more powerful cloud-based AI system accessible to all developers.

Google Photos – Ask Photos

• Advanced Search: Uses context clues to find specific photos, like identifying a car by its license plate.
• Privacy Assurance: Does not collect data for ads or other AI models outside Google Photos.

Google Workspace Integrations

• AI Teammate: Embedded into apps like Docs and Gmail, it helps with tasks like answering questions, crafting emails, summarizing documents, and managing communications.
• Gems Feature: Allows users to set automated routines for various tasks.

New Gemini Models

• Gemini 1.5 Flash: Optimized for low latency tasks.
• Project Astra: A visual chatbot with advanced spatial and contextual understanding, integrating features similar to Google Lens.

Creativity Tools

• VideoFX: A generative video model creating 1080p videos based on text prompts.
• ImageFX: Improved image generator with fewer unwanted digital artifacts in pictures than its previous image generation.
• MusicFX – DJ Mode: Generates music loops and samples based on prompts.

Security and Safety Features

• Scam Detection for Android: Listens to phone calls and detects potential scam language, prompting users to hang up.
• SynthID Watermarking: Detects AI-generated content to combat misinformation and deepfakes, with plans to release it as an open-source tool.

These updates highlight Google’s focus on AI enhancements across its platforms, aiming to improve user experience, developer capabilities, and security measures.
