The continued use of ‘Dear Sirs’ when writing to unknown parties is antiquated and sexist. It is offensive to receive correspondence which relies on the old-fashioned concept that all lawyers are men (all employees for that matter). Failing that, the expression denotes that the women who work there are not even worth acknowledging. To every person working in law, we all have a responsibility to stop using ‘Dear Sirs’.

Equality has to be dealt with on every level.
