Littler CaseSmart® Expands to Class and Collective Action Litigation

(January 17, 2017) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, is pleased to announce the expansion of its award-winning Littler CaseSmart® platform to wage and hour class and collective action litigation.

Launched in 2010, Littler CaseSmart redesigned the way employment matters are handled through a unique combination of technology, alternative staffing models and legal project management. The platform was created to manage administrative agency charges and expanded in 2013 to the defense of single-plaintiff employment litigation. Littler CaseSmart manages employment matters in a more cost-effective and efficient manner, while enhancing quality and consistency and providing data-driven insights on business risks and other employment issues.

“Class action litigation is part of the cost of doing business for today’s employer and in-house legal departments are seeking new approaches that provide greater value and results,” said shareholder Scott Forman, founder of Littler CaseSmart and a member of Littler’s board of directors. “Littler CaseSmart has proven to be an effective system for managing charges and single-plaintiff litigation. As employers grapple with the rising tide of wage and hour class action litigation, we are excited to leverage the Littler CaseSmart model to provide insights that guide the approach and defense of these complex and high-stakes matters.”

Central to the Littler CaseSmart approach is a staffing model that matches the right person to the right task. Legal teams are comprised of Littler shareholders and associates, as well as U.S.-based FlexTime Attorneys, who focus on specific tasks within the legal process, and non-lawyer Data Analysts, who provide valuable insights to the legal team. As part of the Littler CaseSmart – Class Action model, the firm also formed a Strategic Review Committee (SRC) of its leading class and collective action wage and hour litigators. SRC members provide input and strategic guidance on matters to add greater quality and consistency to the way Littler approaches class action litigation as a firm.

Littler CaseSmart – Class Action will also feature the Littler CaseSmart signature dashboard, a transparent case management system that provides real-time information on a matter, as well as insights to proactively manage potential areas of exposure and minimize risk.

Littler has handled more than 16,500 charges and nearly 700 single-plaintiff employment cases through the platform, as well as more than 45 class action matters during the phased rollout of Littler CaseSmart – Class Action in 2016.

The continued expansion of Littler CaseSmart is part of the firm’s broader commitment to providing practical, innovative services to companies of all sizes across various industries. Littler’s suite of Service Solutions also includes the Littler Big Data Initiative, which helps clients leverage data analytics to better manage their workforces and enhance employment litigation strategies, and ComplianceHR, a joint venture between Littler and Neota Logic that provides businesses with web-based applications that guide critical employment law decisions. Littler’s commitment to innovation has drawn accolades from major organizations that recognize innovation in the delivery of legal services, including the Financial Times, National Law Journal, International Legal Technology Association, College of Law Practice Management and Fastcase 50.
