Clyde & Co has announced plans to open a Bangkok office, hiring Ian Johnston and Sorawat Wongkaweepairot as a partner and legal director, respectively, both from insurance law firm Kennedys, which closed in late October.

Matthew Kelsall, Clyde & Co’s CEO in London, said Bangkok is a key hub in the region. “Not only will opening here support the growth of our global insurance practice but provide a platform for growth in our other core sectors, which are central to the fast-growth Asean economies,” said Kelsall. “We are excited about the opportunities this move will provide us with.”

The new office will be the second for Clyde & Co in Southeast Asia after Singapore, providing insurance advice to local and international insurers and reinsurers, as well as litigation services on Thai disputes, and arbitration services on both international and Thai disputes.

Johnston is an international arbitration specialist with extensive dispute-resolution experience and has worked in Asian markets for more than 20 years. He is qualified in England and Wales and Hong Kong. His strong expertise represents insurers, energy companies, developers, construction professionals and contractors in disputes in Asia and beyond the region.
