Dentons lures 2 from DLA Piper

Dentons has enhanced its recovery and restructuring team by appointing a new partner and special counsel, both joining from DLA Piper.

Dentons has welcomed litigation partner, Kon Tsiakis to the Melbourne recovery and restructuring team.

Dentons’ Australia region chair and Australasia CEO, Doug Stipanicev said: “We are delighted to welcome Kon to Dentons.”

“Kon joins an incredibly talented and experienced recovery and restructuring team. He will be an invaluable asset to the strategic growth of this practice as part of our drive to become the preeminent global firm in the Australasia region.”

Mr Tsiakis brings over 20 years’ experience in advising major banks on asset recovery, insolvency practitioners on all aspects of external administrations, and clients in relation to international cross-border insolvency issues.

According to the firm Mr Tsiakis’ appointment complements Dentons’ already strong recovery and restructuring practice and expands the firm’s client offering in Melbourne.

He has particular experience including advising major banks on the enforcement of their security and asset recovery strategy, cognisant of the need to maximise a positive outcome for all stakeholders.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Tsiakis said: “There is significant opportunity here in Melbourne to support Dentons’ clients with their recovery and restructuring needs.

"I’m also looking forward to the opportunities that Dentons’ global reach can provide for my clients.”

Mr Tsiakis is also joined by special counsel, Ryan Hennessey.

Mr Hennessey specialises in the area of commercial litigation and has particular expertise in relation to insolvency and restructuring, anti-bribery and corruption compliance and financial crime.

For over 12 years, Mr Hennessey has been advising clients on complex and sensitive commercial matters requiring strategic negotiation, risk management and dispute resolution.

Mr Hennessey has litigated disputes in state and federal superior and appellate courts, participated in international and domestic arbitrations and has extensive experience with alternative dispute resolution.

Dentons has seen significant growth in the region since 2016 and more recently with the combinations of Dentons Kensington Swan in New Zealand, and Dentons Fisher Jeffries in Adelaide.
