In Business: Alexandria Industries awarded $175,000 DEED Grant

Alexandria Industries in Alexandria was awarded a $175,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development 's Job Creation Fund.

The Job Creation Fund is a pay-for-performance program that provides funding to businesses after meeting certain criteria. Businesses located in Greater Minnesota, or those owned by 51 percent minority, veterans, women or persons with disability, must create at least five full time jobs and invest at least $250,000 to be eligible.

Alexandria Industries produces custom components using industry-leading technology and a skilled workforce. Utilizing aluminum extrusion, precision machining, and fabrication of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, the company makes components that go into products people see and use every day.

The project will add a new extrusion press and handling system and create an additional 7,300 square feet of manufacturing space and 11,300 square feet of office space. The total project cost is $16,433,694. The company expects to create 14 jobs within the next three years with an average cash wage of $15.63 an hour.

Xcel Energy recognizes RetroGreen Insulation

Xcel Energy recognized 52 Minnesota businesses for their outstanding efforts to help customers save energy and reduce their environmental impact, including RetroGreen Insulation with an office in St. Cloud.

The Efficiency Partner awards recognized the top contractors, equipment suppliers and engineers that contributed the greatest electrical and natural gas savings to Xcel Energy’s Minnesota conservation programs in 2018.

The rebates submitted by these 52 companies saved customers more than 81 gigawatt-hours of electricity and 127,000 dekatherms of natural gas, or the equivalent of powering 7,665 homes for a year.

Dr. Terin T. Sytsma received the 2019 Joseph D. Messler, M.D. Outstanding Achievement Award in General Internal Medicine for the Internal Medicine Residency Training program of the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education.

The award is based on outstanding clinical performance during residency, scholarly activity and outstanding humanitarian qualities.
