Executive Turntable: Promotions at Universal Music Group Nashville, Atlantic, Warner/Chappell & More

Universal Music Group Nashville announced a number of changes in their marketing team.

Universal Music Group Nashville announced a number of moves in their marketing teams, with promotions for Lori Christian, Tony Grotticelli and Annie Ortmeier.

Christian, now senior vp of media marketing, began at UMG Nashville in 2012, leading the publicity department where she oversaw more than 100 different projects including Keith Urban’s Ripcord and Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party and Kill the Lights.

Grotticelli has been promoted to vp of digital marketing, having been responsible for overseeing social media, digital development, and e-commerce since joining the company in 2011. In his new role, Grotticelli will now be responsible for leading UMG Nashville’s digital marketing department along with merchandising, direct-to-consumer, business development and advertising.

Ortmeier, now vp of marketing — digital account, joined UMG Nashville in 2013, managing digital partner relationships. In her new role, she will focus on streaming marketing strategy and analysis for all UMG Nashville artists around the world.


Atlantic Records announced (Feb. 8) it had promoted Margo Scott to svp, business & legal affairs and deputy general counsel.

Scott joined Atlantic in 1995 as a junior lawyer and has worked her way up since.

“Margo is a ‘lawyer’s lawyer’ and is widely recognized as one of the most talented business & legal affairs executives in the industry,” said Michael Kushner, executive vp, business & legal affairs & general counsel, in a statement. “Her unparalleled drafting, attention to detail, sage advice, deep understanding of the complexities of our business, and dedication to Atlantic Records is widely recognized, and this promotion is a reflection of all of those qualities.”


Warner/Chappell Music announced on Feb. 12 Paul Smith‘s promotion to creative director at Warner/Chappell UK. Smith has served as senior international creative manager since joining the company in 2016. In this newly created position, Smith will remain in London and continue to report to Mike Smith, managing director of Warner/Chappell Music UK.

“We’re in a golden era for songwriter collaboration and the business is more global than ever,” Smith said in a statement. “It’s great to put together our writers from the UK with their peers from around the world and watch the alchemy happen as great hits emerge.”


Dan Cohen is joining Nonesuch Records as vp of marketing, based in the company’s New York office and reporting to David Bither, Nonesuch’s president. Previously, Cohen served as vp of marketing for Republic Records, overseeing projects including Lorde’s chart-topping debut album, Pure Heroine.

“One of the remarkable things about our label has been the stability of its core management team,” Bither said. “The opportunity to introduce a new voice to that group — particularly someone with the reputation of Dan Cohen — was a special one and I look forward to Nonesuch benefiting from the rich experience he brings us. I’m delighted that he is joining us and believe it speaks to our ambition to build on the course that Nonesuch has charted, today and in the years to come.”


Kenny Macpherson, founder and president of Big Deal Music Group, has been elected to serve on the National Music Publishers’ Association‘s (NMPA) Board of Directors, it was announced Feb. 14.

Before Big Deal Music Group, Macpherson was the president and senior executive of Chrysalis Music Division North America where he and his team were responsible for signing big acts including OutKast and Thom Yorke, as well as producers Joe Henry and Dave Sitek.

Prior to that, Macpherson formed Redhead Music Publishing then went to Warner/Chappell where he helped sign Radiohead, The Blue Nile and others. 

“I am honored to have been elected to serve alongside my peers at the NMPA. The NMPA plays a crucial role in advocating for the rights of songwriters and I am thrilled to be able to contribute in any way I can,” said Macpherson in a statement.


Big Yellow Dog Music in Nashville has added two team members to its film/TV sync department: Sophie Hopkins joins the company as creative manager and Heather Klein as creative coordinator. Hopkins previously worked as a music coordinator at Heavy Hitters Music Group in Los Angeles. Klein joins the company after graduating from college and having served as an intern for the Sync department.


Interscope Geffen A&M announced Wednesday (Feb. 14) that Nicole Wyskoarko is joining the company as executive vp of urban operations, a newly created position. She will report to Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman and CEO John Janick.

“Nicole brings a tremendous breadth of experience to Interscope, having worked both inside and outside record companies over the course of her career,” said Janick in a statement.

Wyskoarko previously worked as an attorney with clients including Meek Mill and DJ Mustard as a partner at Carroll, Guido & Groffman, LLP.
