Public infrastructure expert joins national
A prominent mid-tier firm has appointed a special counsel to its construction and projects team in Sydney.

Catherine Baxter (pictured) has been recruited to Maddocks, the firm announced last week. She joins the firm from Ashurst’s infrastructure group and has previously worked at Clayton Utz, as well as the UK Department for Transport.

Ms Baxter has experience advising on procurement and delivery of public infrastructure projects. Some of her more recent projects have included the Sydney Metro City & Southwest, Northwest, Barangaroo Ferry Hub and Kooragang Island Coal Loader project.
Commenting on her new position as special counsel, Ms Baxter said that she relished the opportunity to contribute to a growing team.
“The challenges of procuring and delivering public infrastructure require deep specialisation and industry know-how. I look forward to serving clients at Maddocks and working with a highly impressive team with a growing reputation,” she said.
Sydney partner Andrew Chapman, Maddocks’ practice leader for construction and projects, said her recruitment was significant for the team.
“Catherine brings with her a rare background and set of skills having worked with and within government on a number of major public infrastructure projects,” Mr Chapman said.
“Her property and public law skill set with a projects focus is highly complementary to our current team.”
