Huddersfield Giants ensured fourth place in Super League going into the Super 8s with victory over bottom side Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

The hosts led 28-12 at the break thanks to tries from Luke Robinson, Jodie Broughton, Michael Lawrence, Dan Smith and Leroy Cudjoe's 100th career try.

Matty Ashurst and Lee Smith went over as Wakefield threatened a fightback.

But Danny Brough added a fine solo score to his five goals to settle it before Reece Lyne scored a consolation.

Ensuring a top-four finish means Huddersfield will now have four home games in the Super 8s as they battle for a place in the end-of-season Super League play-off semi-finals.

How the top two divisions line-up for Super 8s

Super League: Leeds, St Helens, Wigan, Huddersfield, Castleford, Warrington, Hull, Catalans Dragons

The Qualifiers: Widnes, Hull KR, Salford, Wakefield, Leigh, Bradford, Sheffield, Halifax

Wakefield, meanwhile, must finish in the top three of The Qualifiers to guarantee a top-flight place next season.

The visitors got off to a superb start when Jacob Miller rounded Giants full-back Jared Simpson to put Wakefield ahead.

But three tries in 11 minutes from Robinson, Broughton and Lawrence put the hosts in charge.

Scott Anderson replied for the Wildcats only for Dan Smith to touch down against his former club, before Cudjoe ran onto Jamie Ellis's grubber kick to reach his personal milestone.

Ashurst and Lee Smith gave Wakefield hope before Brough sprinted 40 metres into the corner.

Lyne touched down to reduce the deficit again but Huddersfield held on.

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson: "I've asked the players what do you want - do you want to be in the top four or eight or the Grand Final?

"If it's the Grand Final, that (performance) can't happen again because it was complacent.

"I'm not going to mince my words, we were poor. If we want to be in contention we've got to be a million miles better than that."
