Brownsville Customs and Border Protection Officers Seize Narcotics Valued at Over $2.7 Million in Two Seizures

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry intercepted two loads of alleged narcotics over a 10-day period. CBP officers discovered the alleged drugs, with a combined estimated street value of approximately $2,785,628, hidden within two vehicles.

“Our officers did an outstanding job with the interception of these drugs,” said Port Director Bob Parker, Brownsville Port of Entry. “These seizures come as a result of our officers’ vigilance and commitment to the mission of CBP and our streets are safer for it.”

The first seizure took place on Monday, Feb. 12, at the Gateway International Bridge, when CBP officers working primary encountered a woman as she arrived as the driver of a black 2014 Nissan Sentra. The driver, identified as a 19-year-old female United States citizen who resides in Brownsville, Texas, was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. With the help of a non-intrusive imaging system and canine unit, CBP officers discovered two packages hidden within the Nissan Sentra. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 5.25 pounds of alleged cocaine with an estimated street value of $40,460.

The second seizure took place on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Los Indios International Bridge, Los Indios, Texas, when CBP officers working primary encountered a man as he arrived as the driver of a maroon 2007 Chevy Tahoe. The driver, identified as a 21-year-old male Guatemalan citizen who resides in Houston, Texas, was referred to CBP secondary along with his companion identified as a 21-year-old male Cuban citizen who also resides in Houston, Texas, for further examination after a primary inspection. With the help of a non-intrusive imaging system and canine unit, CBP officers discovered six packages hidden within the Chevy Tahoe. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 137.26 pounds of alleged methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $2,745,168.

The combined estimated street value of the narcotics from these seizures is approximately $2,785,628.

CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicles, arrested the drivers and the passenger of the second vehicle, and turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
