Collins, King Announce $639,841 in Grant Funding for Two Maine Airports

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a total of $639,841 in grant funding to support maintenance efforts at Knox County Regional Airport and Lincoln Regional Airport.

“Maine’s airports are critical pieces of our state’s transportation system that bolster our economy and connect our communities,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This funding will strengthen our transportation infrastructure and help ensure these airports can continue to support the regions they serve.”

Knox Regional Airport will receive $341,166 to help replace the airport’s existing rotating beacon that has reached the end of its useful life, rehabilitate 4,000 feet of runway to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize debris, and rehabilitate a taxiway lighting system to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions. Lincoln Regional Airport will receive two grants of $150,000 and $148,675 to remove runway obstructions.

The funding is awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration, an agency within the DOT.
