WASHINGTON— Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and other senior officials spoke by phone today with several hundred Jewish community stakeholders as part of a call organized by the Jewish Federations of North America’s Secure Community Network to discuss current homeland security issues. Deputy Secretary Mayorkas thanked the participants for their continued support in helping to keep our communities safe and secure.

During the call, Department representatives reiterated that there are no specific or credible threats of an attack on the U.S. homeland of the type that occurred in Paris. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will continue to work with our federal, state, local, tribal and territorial partners to identify and disrupt potential threats to the United States.

Deputy Secretary Mayorkas underscored the Department’s continued efforts to expand partnerships with faith-based and community organizations to safeguard local communities. The Department is committed to working with and empowering local communities, including the Jewish community, to effectively protect against violent extremist threats. As part of this ongoing commitment, DHS provides grants through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for terrorism-prevention activities at houses of worship.

DHS Acting Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis Kurt Reuther, Deputy Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate Dr. Ronald Clark, and Deputy Chief of Staff Robert Silvers also participated in the call.
