Semantic Machines Acquired by Microsoft to Advance the State of Conversational AI

Goodwin advised Semantic Machines on its agreement to be acquired by Microsoft. With the acquisition of Semantic Machines, Microsoft will establish a conversational AI center of excellence in Berkeley to push forward the boundaries of what is possible in language interfaces and will aim to deliver powerful, natural and more productive user experiences that will take conversational computing to a new level.

Semantic Machines is a Berkeley, California-based company that has developed a revolutionary new approach to building conversational AI. The company uses the power of machine learning to enable users to discover, access and interact with information and services in a much more natural way, and with significantly less effort.

The Goodwin team was led by partner Lawrence Chu and included partners James Riley, Lynda Galligan and Kelsey Lemaster; counsel Jacqueline Klosek and associates Sandy De Sauvage, Morgan Frisoli, Monica Patel and April Sun.
