The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the U.S. Solicitor General’s Office for its views on whether to review what could become the justices’ first major punitive damages case in more than a decade.

The “call for the views of the solicitor general,” commonly known as a CVSG, was issued in Epic Systems v. Tata Consultancy Services, a theft of trade secrets case. A jury found that Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. fraudulently accessed and stole Epic Systems’ trade secrets and other confidential information.
