A federal judge has set Oct. 1 arguments over the Justice Department’s motion to block a Texas abortion law that effectively bans the procedures after the sixth week of pregnancy.

U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman of the Western District of Texas scheduled the preliminary injunction hearing the day after the DOJ filed its motion for an order to block the rule. He gave Texas attorneys until 9 a.m. Sept. 29 to submit a response to the motion, and the federal government until the morning of the arguments to enter any reply briefs.
