Google Suit Sets Up Clash With DOJ’s Prior Antitrust Ideology

The Justice Department is seeking to tame Alphabet Inc.'s Google in a manner the Trump Administration has previously shunned, setting up an internal contradiction the DOJ could face in the landmark case.

The DOJ’s antitrust lawsuit, filed Tuesday, alleges that Google engaged in anticompetitive tactics to choke off competition. The tech giant’s exclusive agreements with Apple Inc. and other phone makers—ensuring its search engine is pre-installed on their devices—has allowed Google to maintain its internet search market dominance, the agency said in its 64-page complaint.
