Justices Lean Toward Relief for Longtime Immigrants (1)

Supreme Court justices seem likely to rule in favor of longtime immigrants seeking to avoid deportation because, as the law says, their removal would cause “exceptional and extremely unusual hardship” to their U.S. families.

Several justices, including Chief justice John Roberts and Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, noted at argument on Wednesday that a decision in the government’s favor in the case involving Mexican national Clemente Avelino Pereida could lead to unfair results for immigrants.
