Payment and repayment for training
I've been party to many agreements in which the firm invested a significant amount of money in training or retraining my IT people. J.J. Prescott, Stewart Schwab and Evan Starr talk about these agreements as they, and their relationship to noncompete agreements. "Similar to noncompete clauses in employment contracts, training repayment agreements, which require employees to pay back their employers for firm-sponsored training if they quit early, can impede worker mobility and reduce competition in labor markets. The authors document the pervasiveness of these provisions and suggest directions for future research." Are any pinions still using those types of agreements? Read more at

Great User <> Tech Savvy
I'm on board with Lolly Daskal's argument that as leaders we need to know how to work with Generation Z (born between 1997 & 2012). What I disagree with is her attribution of "Digital Proficiency" to Gen Zers. She writes, "Gen Z grew up in a digital world, making them exceptionally tech-savvy. To connect with and engage this generation, leaders must prioritize digital proficiency. Embrace technology, leverage digital platforms for communication, and be open to innovative tools and solutions." Maybe it is a definitional difference, but I would argue that Gen Z are fantastic digital USERS, but that doesn't make them tech savvy. My experience is few understand the underpinnings of the apps they use so frequently. Read more at
