A daily dose of hydroxychloroquine won’t prevent a Covid-19 infection, according to a study published Wednesday in JAMA Internal Medicine.
University of Pennsylvania researchers said their paper marks the first published clinical trial to test whether the anti-malaria drug, which President Donald Trump said in May he took to stave off infection, will prevent Covid-19. About 125 physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, and other front line workers took either hydroxychloroquine or a placebo every day for two months to see if there was a difference in infection rates.
