It wasn’t very diplomatic. On Sunday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave new life to a conspiracy theory inflaming the American right and roiling relations with China. Pompeo told ABC News’s “This Week” that there was “enormous evidence” that the strain of the novel coronavirus originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China. When pressed for evidence, he claimed he was not “allowed” to say more. He later tweeted about China’s supposed “history of infecting the world.”
