WASHINGTON (SBG) - It has been said that "no man is an island, entire of itself" and during the coronavirus pandemic that statement speaks truth like never before. We need each other! Americans have come together in a remarkable fashion.

A director from a resource center in Florida that provides welfare services to protect children from abuse speaks out about how to help during the pandemic. Director of Communications and Engagement with Partnership for Strong Families, Patty Carroll, says most calls of abuse come from teachers, so with school out, it’s important for the community to be on the lookout. She said if you have a reasonable suspicion, making a call, can save the child and family so they can get the resources they need.

Meanwhile, across the nation, Americans continue to show exceptional acts of kindness.

In Iowa, a high school senior started a Facebook group where those in the community could "Adopt a Senior." The group now has 4,000 members and adopters have gotten creative with the gifts they send.

A northern Michigan girl has been busy helping kids in her community by collecting empty cans so she can donate bikes to them. Piper Shumar says she is hoping to donate 200 bikes this year for her cause, Piper's Project.

Class officers from a high school in Rhode Island found a creative way to pay it forward. The Class of 2020 decided to repurpose money that had been raised for prom by purchasing food for a nursing home near them. Staff at the nursing home were so appreciative that they took pictures with the food.
