The Los Angeles County Law Library, like all public libraries during coronavirus time, is closed to the public until further notice.
However, legal issues are a worry at any time and the library has resources to help. Residents are encouraged to start solving their legal issues including, but not limited to, domestic abuse, debt/money issues, eviction, foreclosure and unemployment, through the law library’s online services or by phone, email or live chats with reference librarians.
The library has made available their most popular classes online and for free. Classes include business contracts, divorce and separation, estate probate and trusts, family law, landlord-tenant law, filing a civil lawsuit, finding a lawyer, how to settle legal disputes and trademarks and patents. See the link www.lalawlibrary.org/onlineclasses-2020
The law library also offers its Lawyers in the Library program. Volunteer attorneys consider legal questions during a free, 20-minute consultation. The concerns covered include bankruptcy, child support, contracts, credit card lawsuit/debt collection, elder abuse, estate planning, divorce and child custody, housing, immigration, personal injury, probate, restraining order for protection, small business, small claims and workers’ compensation.
Those interested in the Lawyers in the Library need to fill out a form from the library’s website. A representative will respond to set up the consultation. See the form here: forms.lalawlibrary.org/view.php?id=51191
The library has posted a guide “How Will the COVID-19 Emergency Affect My Legal Problem?” See the guide here www.lalawlibrary.org/component/k2/covid-19-resource-list
