Amid COVID-19 business and service closures, requests for restraining orders continue to be filed, while family law issues, collection lawsuits, landlord-tenant disputes and elder care continue.

During the shelter-in-place directive Tehama County low income and self-representing residents can still receive free legal assistance from the Tehama County Law Library by telephone and email 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The law library provides legal forms, legal information, instructions and other resources via phone at 529-4583 x108 and email at lawlibrary@tehamacountylibrary.org.

The public can access the following online legal databases on the law library’s website, http://www.tehamacountylibrary.org/services/tehama-county-law-library, at no cost:

California Courts Self-Help Center – Locate California court forms, research legal topics and find information on a wide range of issues such as adoption, child custody and support, divorce, domestic violence, eviction and housing, expungement (cleaning your criminal record), court fee waivers, guardianship, name change, proof of service, problems with money, and traffic infractions.

Self-Help Assistance and Referral Program, or SHARP – Remote assistance is available 24/7 in partnership with LawHelp Interactive in which individuals can prepare their own legal documents online. Online programs include divorce starter kit, divorce petition and disclosures, request for and response to domestic violence restraining order, guardianship petition, fee waiver petition for guardianship, parentage petition and response, name change petition, small claims, civil harassment restraining order and response, elder abuse restraining order petition and response, and request for order.

Superior Court, County of Tehama – Receive legal information, court procedures and answers to frequently asked questions for Civil and Family Law, Criminal Court, Family Court Services, Juvenile Court, Probate Court, Small Claims and Traffic divisions.

Ask a Law Librarian – Chat online live with a California Law Librarian to ask questions and get legal information. Law Librarians are usually available for online chat 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
