REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (WBFF) - Police in Rehoboth Beach have been following out-of-state motorists to check if they are complying with quarantine requirements, according to a post on social media.

The beach boardwalk has been closed, and police said they have monitored 102 people since April 3.

"Rehoboth Beach Police officers in patrol vehicles began following out-of-state motorists as they entered city limits," according to the statement.

Of those, 11 were found to be in violation of the 14-day self-quarantine mandate.

No arrests have been made at this time, said police.

The monitoring initiative began "in response to concerns of many local residents over the influx of out-of-state travelers into the Rehoboth Beach and other coastal resort communities," said police.

Although police said arrest is not "the desired remedy... as COVID-19 spreads, it will be necessary to combat blatant non-compliance, which will not be tolerated."

Other beaches, including Ocean City, remain closed also, and the Town of Ocean City is urging everyone to stay home and not visit.
