WHILE one more COVID-19 related death has sadly been reported at Warrington Hospital, infection rates are continuing to fall in the town with 291 new cases confirmed.

The 291 (331) new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed by the UK Health Security Agency in the latest daily data, taking the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 57,539 (57,248).

Infection rates over a seven-day period have fallen to 2,139 (2,271) – 1,021.5 (1,084.5) per 100,000 population but are still above the national average of 941.3 (985.5) per 100,000, which have fallen again over a seven day period.

While one more patient has sadly died, inpatient numbers of fallen again from 71-67, while another three patients have been discharged since yesterday.

The latest data comes as work from home guidance, COVID passports and mandatory wearing of face-masks are being scrapped in England, as Boris Johnson announced the lifting of Plan B measures.
People will no longer be told to work from home “from now on”, and from Thursday next week mandatory mask-wearing and COVID certification will end.
He also confirmed the intention to end self-isolation rules for people with coronavirus in the coming weeks. The legal requirement would lapse when the regulations expire on 24 March, he said, and that date could be brought forward.
The PM told the Commons cases were falling and the Omicron wave had likely peaked nationally, meaning rules could now be eased.
Mr Johnson said it was time to “trust the judgement” of the public on the use of masks in enclosed and crowded places, and they will be scrapped in classrooms from tomorrow.
