Memorial ceremony for President Sassoli

Parliament will pay tribute to President Sassoli, who passed away on 11 January, at a ceremony in the hemicycle at 18.00. Chaired by the EP’s acting President Roberta Metsola, it will include a eulogy by former Italian Prime Minister and MEP Enrico Letta, a close friend of President Sassoli. After a musical interlude, Presidents Charles Michel, Ursula von der Leyen and Emmanuel Macron, and the leaders of parliament’s political groups, will take the floor. Announcement of candidates to become next EP President

The official list of candidates for the first round of voting for the position of President of the European Parliament for the remaining 2.5 years of this term will be announced in plenary, following the memorial service for President Sassoli. The deadline for candidatures to be presented is 17.00 today. The first round of voting will take place on Tuesday, from 9.30 to 10.15, with the results announced at 11.00.
