SAUL EWING ARNSTEIN & LEHR: Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr continues expansion of Boston Office with Addition of Partners N. Scott Pierce and Mary K. Murray, PH.D.

Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr issued the following announcement on Nov. 13.

Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP announced that N. Scott Pierce and Mary K. Murray, Ph.D. have joined the Firm as partners in the Intellectual Property and Life Sciences Practices, resident in the Boston office.

Scott and Mary are patent attorneys with more than 50 years of combined experience in intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution and strategy.

Scott’s technical background includes, for example, organic, polymer and physical chemistry; biotechnology; and biomechanical, chemical, electromechanical and software engineering. Some recent specific applications include: optogenetics; biomechatronics; intravascular prosthetics; hemoglobin blood substitutes; semiconductors; heterojunction bipolar transistors; lithium ion batteries; living cationic polymerization; and the internet of things.

Mary has an extensive background in biophysics; cell, molecular and developmental biology; genetic engineering; pharmacology; immunology; vaccines; and intravascular prosthetics. Among her clients are developers and manufacturers of intravascular aortic prosthetics, vaccines to viral and bacterial antigens, treatments for genetic conditions, and molecular diagnostic tools.

"Because of the depth and breadth of their experience, we anticipate they will serve our clients in a wide range of industries, particularly life sciences and pharmaceuticals."

Scott and Mary bring to five the number of new partners to join Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr’s Boston office in 2018. The Firm entered the Boston market after merging with law firm Dionne & Gass LLP in 2011 and has continued to expand its presence in the city. Jeffrey Robbins and Joseph Lipchitz, who established the Firm’s national First Amendment & Media Practice and strengthened its Higher Education and Health Care Practices, and Steven P. Eichel, who strengthened our Business and Finance and Tax Practices, also moved to the Firm this year. The Boston team also focuses on real estate, finance and business law, serving clients in numerous industries on a national and local basis.

Scott is a graduate of the State University of New York School of Law at Buffalo and earned an MBA and two bachelor of science degrees, including one in engineering, from the University of Connecticut. Mary is a graduate of the Suffolk University Law School and earned a doctorate from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. She also has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois.
